The book endless possibilities that you can discuss with children. I started my lesson with telling them that the book can bite you. Do you not believe me? I am not kidding. Then I showed them how it bites.
We start with talking about things that have holes. It can be a tunnel, a hat or a jumper and so many more things.
Every page of this book can be used in umpteen ways.
For example, I asked the kids if they like soup and what's their favourite. Then I asked if they ever eat teacher soup. And I put my face in the pan.
You can also ask them to draw ingredients. It can be something they like and their parents cook, or can be more naughty. Maybe soup for a goblin or a witch.
You can also play prediction games and ask the kids before every page what they think the hole will become next. Or guess what other kids in the group want to answer. For example I ask my students to draw where the king lives and then I ask Annie what she thinks Mary’s got in her picture.
You could also have a photo fun day when children put their faces in. But before that they will need to say what page they want and why.
Some of the pages are very good to be used as prompts for drama. For example, one kid is a king and he talks to his people. Or one kid is a scientist with a telescope and they say to everybody what they can see.
All pages have questions written by the artist so you can’t get stuck with it. You'll always have at least one idea of what to do with it.
Some of the pages are less interesting for working with online groups but it’s only a few of them.
