Gregory Hall School is run by Ana and Geoff Gregory. We teach all of our classes ourselves, so the children get to know us — and we get to know them.

WHY PICTUREBOOKS
PICTUREBOOKS ARE NOT JUST FOR BABIES.
Some have hundreds of words. Some have almost none. The best picturebooks ask readers to notice, interpret, question and make connections between what they see and what they read.
IN THE CLASSROOM
WE READ PICTURES AS WELL AS WORDS.
Children learn to notice how illustrators use images to tell stories, how writers leave gaps for readers to fill, and how words and pictures can sometimes tell us different things.
We question, interpret, debate and make connections. There isn't always one correct answer — but there should always be a reason for the answer you give.
Our classes move through literature, history, geography, science, art and culture — sometimes separately and often together.
We use different subjects to ask questions, follow ideas, make connections and understand the world from different angles.

Books, pictures & big questions
Ana founded Gregory Hall. and teaches through books, pictures, history, culture and whatever interesting questions the children lead her towards.
Ana has spent more than twenty years teaching children and studying children’s literature, with a particular interest in picturebooks and visual literacy.
She believes children are capable of reading far more intelligently than adults sometimes expect them to.
MR GREGORY
Helping children find their voice
Geoff works mainly with our younger students, particularly children who find it difficult to speak and join in.
A magician as well as a teacher, he has a wonderful way of drawing children into conversation. Science, Geography and History become the starting points for talking, wondering and gaining confidence.
He prepares younger children for our Hello Happy classes — helping them find their voice before asking them to use it.
